Ah k i'm gonna try and do a review for different games i been playing recently and such. Let me know what you think of the style I use too
This is my first review so I don't know how well it will turn out, I also played the PC version of this too.
Story: Duke Nukem Forever is continuing where Duke3d left off. Having defeated the aliens 12 years ago is now finding them returning to earth for revenge. Now Duke has to try and stop their plans of invasion and stealing the women for their own needs.
Gameplay & Graphics: The game basically runs on the Unreal Tournament 3 engine and therefore looks fairly similar. I quite liked way the maps looked whether it was the city of LA's hotel, duke burger restuarant or the desert like ghost town to the hoover dam.
The controls are very much like any other FPS. By default you carry up to 2 weapons (4 with the update) plus pipebombs and trip mines. There is also additional items you can pick up to help you out like holoduke (invisibility), steriods (melee strength boost) and beer (defense boost). Unlike previous duke games your hp bar (ego bar as they call it) is regenerating instead of using medkits you pick up.
You also have the option of interacting with different objects some actually increase your max ego. With a number of different ego boosts per level to find.
Sounds: The music and sound effects were alright for the most part. The music is kinda dynamic that areas will have an ambient until a battle starts then after returns to the ambient. I found the OST to have a few stand out tracks like the opening theme returning and the ghost town level. The game contains the usual one liners duke will say when doing different games options like interacting with objects and killing the aliens. Leads to some funny lines
Difficulty: The monsters AI varies, sometimes they can kill you very quickly or accidentally kill each other lol. One enemy thats quite a pain in the ass is the octobrains which have been buffed compared to their duke3d counterpart. The game overall is around an average difficulty maybe above average on the hardest, especially with a lack of cover in some places.
Multiplayer: The multiplayer for this game is very similar to older style FPS games like quake and unreal tournament, where is faster paced running around trying to frag each other. The 4 weapon carry option is not available for it like single player due to the possible imbalance it may cause. Has a stats track in the menu and a challenge list to unlock some customisation options for your player model. There is a leveling type system for this too where you unlock a walk around gallery type area called "My Dig" which is very nice looking. The game modes offered are your deathmatch, team deathmatch, a capture the flag variant called capture the babe and a king of the mountain type called hail to the king.
Downsides: Many dislike the graphics seeming a bit dated and the some of the humor being childish to a degree but I think most should just check the game out for themselves to decide, or youtube videos if they don't want to buy it first.
I myself kinda hated how the water level was done due to the lack of a scuba gear item. This led to you having to go to air vents under the water to regain your oxygen but it didn't slow down the flow of the game in anyway. The limit of weapons was kinda annoying especially if your used to the old duke games, but he 4 weapon update they released makes that actually not as bad as it may sound.
DLC: Downloadable content offered for the game currently is 4 new maps (with a new unique weapon in each map) and 3 new gametypes (ffa hail to the king, freezer tag (freeze the entire enemy team) and hot potato (ffa capture the babe) for multiplayer. I have bought them myself and they are quite fun just few people tend to host the new gametypes.
Would I recommend it: Definitely, I'd give the game about a 6.5 or 7 out of 10. It tends to be a alright duke story and a very fun multiplayer that I'm still currently playing.
